Artist Statement Through my art I aspire to capture moments in time that relate to memories that touch our hearts. I aspire to create images of objects, places and figures with pleasing shapes and energetic color. My “people stories” are paintings including figure in them. This is a subject I enjoy painting. My people are All People and an experience we can share. The “At the Beach” series provides glimpses of sensual and relaxing times that are the beach. The beach offers a refuge from the routine and mundane. The figures enjoy the warm sun, the wind blowing their hair, umbrellas, towels, sand in their toes and the beauty of the ocean. My desire is to excite the heart of the viewer by bringing to mind happy memories or expectations. Oil is my favorite medium. I take pleasure in working the oil as it dries, the way it blends, the effects that are created. The colors are so vibrant they jump off the canvass. My style is realistic with painterly overtones. Strong primary colors set an up-beat mood. By using composition and perspective bold positive and negative shapes come together forming a statement about the subject. Color complements and value contrasts are vital elements in my paintings. Art has always been in my life and is my life.
